Responsibilities
  • Serve as the go-to resource for schema design, schema changes, and query development across multiple products
  • Review how databases are being used and tune indexes and queries based on what the data shows
  • Contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from gathering requirements and shaping architecture through build, testing, and release
  • Stand up, configure, and support database servers on both Windows and Linux, in Azure and in the company’s own data center
  • Design access controls around a least privilege model and keep permissions tight
  • Plan and execute workload migrations into Azure and manage ongoing Azure SQL operations
  • Build, configure, and support SQL Server Always On Availability Groups on top of Windows failover clustering
  • Own backup and restore strategy, recovery model choices, and disaster recovery planning
  • Partner with developers on data modeling, query design, and performance problems
  • Write and maintain scripts that automate repetitive administrative work
  • Forecast storage and compute needs and evaluate server resource usage
  • Help estimate work and improve team processes within an Agile delivery model
  • Ship new functionality, improve existing features, resolve defects, and keep platforms on supported versions
  • Work with application owners and leadership to keep projects aligned with internal standards
  • Keep runbooks and technical documentation current so systems stay supportable
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 5+ years administering Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB and CouchDB
  • Progress database exposure is a plus
  • Solid background with Azure SQL and other Azure data services
  • Deep skill in SQL development and performance tuning
  • Proven experience with Always On Availability Groups and Windows clustering+
  • 5years of Windows Server administration
  • Linux administration experience is a plus
  • Strong grasp of high availability and disaster recovery design
  • Working knowledge of Jira or Asana
  • Comfortable explaining technical topics to business stakeholders
