Description:

Data Analyst / Data Scientist - Oil & Gas
Remote | Full-Time |

Our client is a lean, entrepreneurial investment platform focused on acquiring and investing in non-operated working interests, royalties, and other upstream oil & gas opportunities. The company invests its own capital and operates with a highly collaborative, fully remote team where individuals have significant autonomy and ownership. They are looking for a Data Analyst / Data Scientist to build and develop the data infrastructure that will support the company's acquisition strategy and long-term growth.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working with large, complex datasets, solving messy data problems, building analytical tools, and creating something from the ground up. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who can work independently and is excited by the opportunity to directly influence investment and acquisition decisions.

  • Fully remote position.
  • Work directly with company leadership and co-founders.
  • Significant autonomy and ownership.
  • Opportunity to build the company's data platform from the ground up.
  • Your work will directly influence the company's acquisition strategy and investment decisions.
  • Lean, entrepreneurial environment with minimal bureaucracy.
  • Opportunity to incorporate AI, machine learning, GIS, and advanced analytics into a growing investment platform.
  • The systems and processes you build will ultimately support expansion into multiple counties and states.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consolidate and integrate large volumes of data from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Build systems to organize and visualize land, ownership, title, lease, acquisition, production, and revenue data.
  • Develop Spotfire dashboards and visualization tools to support investment and acquisition decisions.
  • Clean, standardize, and reconcile inconsistent datasets, including owner names, legal descriptions, lease numbers, and other identifiers.
  • Develop methods for fuzzy matching and entity resolution to identify relationships across disparate datasets.
  • Analyze competitor and operator acquisition activity and develop tools to track buying programs.
  • Build mapping and spatial-data capabilities, including GIS and shapefiles, where appropriate.
  • Consolidate internal title information currently maintained across multiple spreadsheets and create a more efficient system for tracking title activity.
  • Develop tools to connect acquisition activity, title information, negotiations, and portfolio data.
  • Help create scalable platforms for tracking production, revenue, JIB and other portfolio-level information.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve data quality and accessibility.
  • Explore and implement AI / machine learning models where they can improve data matching, analysis, forecasting, or opportunity identification.
  • Develop repeatable processes that can eventually be expanded into additional counties and geographic markets.
  • Partner directly with company leadership to understand business needs and translate them into practical data solutions.

Qualifications
  • Approximately ~2+ years of professional experience in data analytics, data science, data engineering, business intelligence, or a related field.
  • Strong experience working with large, complex or disparate datasets.
  • Spotfire experience is required.
  • Strong SQL and/or Python skills.
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboard development.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to clean, organize, reconcile, and integrate data from multiple sources.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and develop solutions with limited direction.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with business and investment professionals.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have
  • Oil & gas experience, particularly upstream, land, minerals, non-op, royalties, or A&D.
  • GIS / spatial data experience.
  • Experience working with shapefiles or mapping data.
  • Experience with fuzzy matching, entity resolution, or natural-language processing.
  • Machine learning or AI experience.
  • Experience automating manual Excel-based processes.
  • Experience working with ownership, title, lease, production, revenue, or county records.
  • Experience integrating data from APIs, databases, public records, or third-party data providers.
