Software Engineer - Java & Protocol Integration
Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong Java development skills and a background in protocol integration—specifically Exchange Web Services (EWS) and Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). This role involves building and maintaining software components that enable seamless communication between enterprise applications and email/calendar platforms through modern protocol standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications that integrate with email and messaging protocols (EWS, EAS).
- Implement protocol handlers, middleware, or connectors that facilitate application-level communication with Microsoft Outlook or other services.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define and implement integration strategies with third-party or internal applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve protocol-level issues in live environments.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and integration guides.
- Perform code reviews and contribute to improving development best practices.
- Stay updated on protocol changes, API updates, and evolving standards related to email and calendar services.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience using Java.
- Hands-on experience integrating with Exchange Web Services (EWS) and Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocols.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, HTTP, XML, and RESTful services.
- Experience with protocol-level debugging, integration testing, and log analysis.
- Familiarity with enterprise email systems such as Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365.
- Proven experience in protocol integration between back-end systems and third-party applications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with other messaging or synchronization protocols (e.g., IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV, WebDAV).
- Background in enterprise application integration (EAI) or middleware platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud services or email hosting environments (e.g., Exchange Online, Google Workspace).
- Exposure to agile development methodologies and version control (e.g., Git).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Role is contract and fully remote
